Welcome to the Stone Age!

This prototype is the first of many new keyboards in the Primordial Ink line that will, hopefully, be available by the summer of this year.  This particular model I’ve dubbed Pebbles and Bam Bam, for obvious reasons. And just for kicks, this blog post has been typed entirely on this particular keyboard.

Pebbles and Bam Bam is a Kensington usb keyboard, slim-line, for the PC. I’ve used 104 Washington State beach rocks collected over the summer months and tumble-polished in a rotary tumbler.

As you can tell, it’s for the expert only!  There are no letters, no numbers, and there is not one single label on any function key.  I’m typing by touch, and oddly enough it’s not as hard as I had expected. You can’t get lazy, you have to keep your wrists up, your fingers light, but using this keyboard is far easier than I ever thought it would be.  Most of us can touch type, and even make corrections without glancing down, so if you’re confident in your talents, and want to experience something fun, unique and interesting, Pebbles and Bam Bam might be for you.

I have no concept of pricing yet, and that will all depend on how many keyboards I can get my hands on – whether or not I have to resort to purchasing new ones if I get no donated boards.

Right now, this keyboard is ready for the Beta Testing mode. It will be sent out for some rough handling and daily use, and if it passes muster, I’ll start making more.  In the meantime, another model is in the works, which will employ cut slabs of jasper that are currently being shaped and polished.

Hopefully my Beta Tester can video actual use of the Pebbles and Bam Bam, if so I’ll post that here.  In the meantime, these photos should give you a clue. (better photos coming)
